This project is a creative wellbeing collaboration between myself and Royal Brompton and Harefield Arts. RB&H Arts hosts monthly Crafternoon, sessions where participants are invited to creatively explore the hospital environment through activities such as still life drawing and photography.
As part of these sessions, I was invited to work with hospital staff, patients, and visitors to create a series of informal portraits that reflect their personal connection to the hospital. The project aims to highlight the individuals who shape and sustain the life of the hospital yet often remain unseen within its public narrative. These participants range from healthcare workers to those receiving care, forming the unsung heroes of the hosiptal environment.
Through portraiture, the project creates space for these individuals to be recognised and represented on their own terms. The resulting images reflect the many roles, emotions, stories and quiet contributions that shape the hospital community. By foregrounding the people who inhabit these spaces every day, the project seeks to acknowledge their contributions and reaffirm their presence within the broader story of the institution.
